China's TCL took to the semi-virtual stage of this year's IFA trade show in Berlin and announced a dizzying amount of gadgets, concepts and new technologies.
Among them, several stand out. One is the Movetime Family Watch MT43a, an Apple Watch lookalike aimed at seniors. It's got 4G connectivity, allowing users to make and receive hands-free calls.
Other notable features are medication reminders, heart rate monitoring and automatic fall detection. Other typical smartwatch feature such as activity tracking and sleep monitoring are present, too.
The design of the watch should surprise no one, as it looks a lot like the Apple Watch, with an 41x48.5mm AMOLED display. However, unlike the Apple Watch, the Movetime is optimized for seniors, with larger icons, and watch faces with graphics that should be very easy to see. It's water and dust resistant up to IP67 specifications, and comes in two colors: Dark Gray and Black.
The Movetime Family Watch MT43a will be available in North America and Europe in the fall, for the price of 229 EUR ($271).

It falls somewhere between e-ink and traditional LCD displays, offering a "paper-like visual experience" with "zero eye strain," but it's in full color. TCL says a Nxtpaper display will have no flicker and will emit no blue light, while still offering 25% higher contrast than traditional e-ink displays.

The technology is developed with tablets in mind, meaning you can expect some thin, power-efficient, full-color, high-definition tablets in the future.
TCL 10 Tabmax.Credit: TCLTCL launched two tablets at IFA, too, though neither uses the new Nxtpaper tech. The TCL 10 Tabmax is a 10.36-inch FHD+ display with 8.3mm, narrow bezels, stylus support, an 8,000mAh battery, a 13-megapixel rear camera and an 8-megapixel front-facing camera. The Wi-Fi-only variant costs 249 EUR ($294), while the 4G model costs 299 EUR ($353). It will be available in "select regions globally" in the fourth quarter of 2020.
