We've come to rely on our phones for all sorts of daily tasks, including waking us up in the morning.

But some iPhone owners say that their devices recently failed to do that, apparently because they mysteriously turned off in the middle of the night.

According to reports from 9to5Mac, MacRumors, and Reddit, the issue is affecting new phones, such as the iPhone 15 Pro Max, but also older models, including the iPhone 14 Pro, the iPhone 14 Pro Max, and the iPhone 13 Pro Max, among others.

Some users on MacRumors forums and Reddit say this has only happened on iOS 17, but other users say that it has happened on older versions of iOS as well.

Aside from an alarm not going off, there are a couple of ways to determine whether this has happened to you; for example, if the iPhone is asking for your PIN in the morning, or if the Battery portion of the iPhone's Settings is showing gaps in the charging graph for the last 24 hours.

There's also a large number of people who have reported nothing unusual happening on their phones (for the record, it hasn't happened on my iPhone 15 Pro Max running iOS 17.1 developer beta 3), so it's hard to determine just how widespread the problem is.

There's no word from Apple about the issue yet; we'll update this article when we find out more.
